The trip combines several snorkelling stops with clear water, coral reefs and time on white-sand beaches.

Most tours are full-day speedboat trips from Koh Lanta. The focus is mainly on snorkelling and beach time rather than fitting lots of different attractions into one day.

Koh Rok consists of two small islands, Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai, within Mu Ko Lanta National Park.

Koh Haa

Tours from Koh Lanta usually travel south towards the Trang Islands. The exact route depends on the operator, so the four stops aren’t always the same.
Koh Mook is the main attraction because this is where you’ll find Emerald Cave.
Other stops can include islands such as Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai, along with snorkelling spots and beaches.
Some tours travel by speedboat, while others use a traditional long-tail boat.
Check the route and boat type when comparing trips, rather than choosing based on the name “Four Islands” alone.
Emerald Cave on Koh Mook
Emerald Cave, also known as Tham Morakot, is what makes this trip particularly different from the other boat trips around Koh Lanta.
You enter the cave from the sea and swim through a dark passage before reaching a small beach enclosed by high limestone cliffs.
I visited Emerald Cave on Koh Mook while staying on the island rather than travelling from Koh Lanta.
It was one of the most unusual places I visited in southern Thailand, although it can get busy when several tour boats arrive at the same time.

The rest of the day usually combines snorkelling with stops at beaches and smaller islands.

A day trip to the Phi Phi Islands is a good option if Koh Lanta is your main base but you still want to see Maya Bay and the dramatic limestone scenery around Phi Phi Leh.
Full-day tours from Koh Lanta usually travel by speedboat, as Phi Phi is considerably farther away than places such as Koh Por or Koh Talabeng.

Who Should Choose a Phi Phi Day Trip?
Choose this trip if Koh Lanta is your main base and seeing Maya Bay is high on your list.
It is a longer excursion than many of the other day trips in this guide.
If you are already planning to stay on Koh Phi Phi, I wouldn’t use one of your days on Koh Lanta to visit it as well.
Is a Phi Phi Day Trip From Koh Lanta Worth It?
Yes, if you aren’t visiting Phi Phi anywhere else on your trip. An organised day tour lets you see Maya Bay and several of the surrounding sights without changing hotels.
However, a day trip and actually staying on Koh Phi Phi are very different experiences.
Staying gives you time to explore Phi Phi Don independently, hike to the viewpoints and visit beaches beyond the usual boat-tour stops.

Diving From Koh Lanta – Best for Scuba Divers
Koh Lanta is also a useful base for scuba diving, with dive boats travelling to several offshore sites in the Andaman Sea.
Two of the main options are Koh Haa and the deeper sites around Hin Daeng and Hin Muang.
They suit different levels of diving experience, so check the requirements with your dive centre before booking.
Koh Haa
Koh Haa offers reefs, walls, caverns and a protected lagoon, with dive sites suitable for different experience levels.
It is also used for training and beginner dives, so it’s the more accessible option if you are relatively new to scuba diving.
The same area is popular with snorkellers, but a dedicated dive trip allows you to explore much more below the surface.
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are better suited to experienced divers. These offshore sites are known for deeper water, walls, colourful soft corals and the possibility of seeing larger marine life.
Conditions can be more challenging than at Koh Haa. Some dive operators require Advanced Open Water certification for trips here, so check the individual operator’s requirements before booking.
Which Dive Trip Should You Choose?
Koh Haa is the more versatile choice and can work for less experienced divers.
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are better suited to experienced divers looking for deeper and more challenging dives.

For current conditions and suitable dive sites, book through a reputable dive centre on Koh Lanta.
Your certification and experience will determine which trips are appropriate for you.

Thung Yee Pheng Mangroves – Best Half-Day Nature Trip
Not every day trip from Koh Lanta requires heading out to sea.
Thung Yee Pheng is on the northeast coast of Koh Lanta itself and is a good half-day option if you want to explore the island’s mangrove ecosystem.
Exploring Thung Yee Pheng Mangroves
Kayaking is one of the best ways to explore the mangroves. You can paddle through the narrow waterways and get much closer to the forest than you would from the shore.
If you don’t want to kayak, long-tail boat trips are another option. This is an easier way to explore the waterways while still seeing the mangrove landscape.
The forest is home to birds, monkeys and other wildlife. Keep food packed away around the monkeys and avoid feeding them.
Independent Visit or Organised Tour?
You can travel to Thung Yee Pheng independently and arrange a kayak or boat once you arrive.
If you have your own transport, you can also combine the mangroves with other stops around the island as part of a Koh Lanta road trip.
Organised tours are more convenient if you don’t plan on renting a scooter or a car.
Depending on the tour, hotel pickup, kayaking, a guide and other nearby activities may be included.
Check what you are actually booking, as some tours focus almost entirely on the mangroves while others combine them with additional stops.
Who Should Choose Thung Yee Pheng?
Choose the mangroves if you want a nature-focused activity without committing to another full day on a speedboat.
It also works well if you only have half a day available or want to spend the rest of your day exploring Koh Lanta independently.

Independent Day Trips From Koh Lanta by Ferry
Krabi, Ao Nang, Railay and Phuket can technically be visited independently from Koh Lanta when ferry and speedboat schedules allow.
These are not organised sightseeing tours. You’ll need to arrange your outbound and return journeys separately, and the timetable will determine how much time you actually have at your destination.
For most travellers, these places make more sense as separate stops on a wider Southern Thailand route.
If you want to keep Koh Lanta as your main base, you could also turn the journey into an overnight trip rather than trying to return the same day.
However, a day trip can work if the connections line up well and you only want a short visit.
Krabi Town
Krabi Town is one of the more realistic options if you find convenient morning and return connections.
Once there, you can explore the town independently, visit local markets and temples, and spend some time around the riverfront.
I wouldn’t travel there and back simply to tick Krabi off your list. However, it can make sense if you specifically want to experience the town and don’t have space for an overnight stay.

Before making plans, check the ferry and speedboat schedules in both directions to make sure you have enough time in Krabi.
Ao Nang and Railay
Ao Nang is also connected with Koh Lanta by seasonal boat services, making an independent day trip possible when the timetable works.
Railay requires more planning. Depending on the available connection, you may need to continue by local boat after reaching the Krabi or Ao Nang area.
With several journeys involved, I would only consider this if the schedules leave you with enough time to actually enjoy the destination.
Otherwise, Ao Nang and Railay are much better treated as a separate stop before or after Koh Lanta.

Phuket
You can also travel between Koh Lanta and Phuket by ferry or speedboat, but I wouldn’t recommend Phuket as a day trip for most travellers.
The journey to Phuket is only part of the problem.
Phuket is a large island, so after arriving at the pier you may still need considerable time to reach the beach, Old Town or other places you want to visit.
If Phuket is part of your Thailand plans, it makes much more sense to stay there before or after Koh Lanta rather than rushing there and back in one day.

How to Book Day Trips From Koh Lanta
Most day trips from Koh Lanta can be booked online, through local tour agencies or directly through your accommodation.
You’ll find plenty of options once you arrive, particularly around the main tourist areas.
1. Booking Online
Booking online makes it easier to compare itineraries, prices and recent reviews before choosing a tour.
It can also be useful if you want a particular trip or departure date, especially during the busiest months.
Just check exactly what is included, as tours with similar names can follow different routes.
2. Booking Through a Local Tour Agency
You’ll find local tour agencies throughout Koh Lanta. This is a good option if you prefer to decide once you arrive or want to compare several trips in person.
Ask for the full itinerary rather than choosing based only on the tour name. This is particularly important for trips such as Four Islands or Koh Talabeng, where stops and activities can vary.
3. Booking Through Your Accommodation
Many hotels and guesthouses can arrange day trips for you. This is convenient if you don’t want to visit several agencies yourself.
Your accommodation can also confirm pickup arrangements and help you contact the operator if plans change.
4. Shared vs Private Tours
Most of the trips in this guide are available as shared tours, which are usually the more affordable option.
Private tours give you more flexibility, but don’t assume that booking privately means you can visit anywhere at any time.
Boat routes can still depend on weather, sea conditions, park regulations and local access restrictions.

When Is the Best Time for Day Trips From Koh Lanta?
The dry season is the easiest time to plan boat trips from Koh Lanta. This generally runs from around November to April, when more routes are operating and sea conditions are usually more favourable.
Seasonal Island Closures
Some of the islands and dive sites around Koh Lanta close during the monsoon season for safety and environmental recovery.
Koh Rok, Koh Haa, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are typically closed from May through October.
The Trang Islands have their own schedules, with some areas around Koh Mook and Koh Kradan closing during part of the low season.
Always check the current national park closures before planning a specific trip, as dates can differ between locations.
Weather Can Change Your Plans
Even during the main season, boat trips depend on the weather and sea conditions.
Tours can be cancelled, postponed or follow a different route when conditions aren’t suitable. A particular snorkelling or island stop may also be changed on the day.
For this reason, I wouldn’t leave the day trip you’re most excited about until your final day on Koh Lanta.
Schedule it earlier in your stay if possible, so you have another opportunity if the weather changes.
If you’re travelling outside the main season, keep your boat days flexible. Land-based activities on Koh Lanta are much easier to rearrange around the weather.
