By Beata – Adventure Travel Writer

Koh Lanta in Thailand is an island full of incredible beaches, stretching along its 13 miles long coastline.

The west coast is a paradise for beach lovers, with pristine sandy beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and vibrant nightlife.

The east coast, however, is wild and unspoiled, with rocky shores and unique mangrove forests.

After spending almost a week there, I’ve discovered some of the hidden gems along Koh Lanta’s shoreline.

You can even venture out to small neighbouring islands easily accessible from the island.

Read on to learn about all the beaches you can visit on Koh Lanta and how to easily access them.

Best Beaches on Koh Lanta’s West Coast

Koh Lanta is one of the most relaxed islands in Southern Thailand. See this Southern Thailand travel guide for a full overview of the region.

If you’re planning a trip to the island, see my Koh Lanta travel guide for itineraries, travel tips, and the best places to visit.

1. Laem Kho Kwang Beach and  Hin Ngam Beach

In the far northwest of the island, you’ll find Laem Kho Kwang Beach and Hin Ngam Beach, located next to each other.

  • Both beaches are calm, offering plenty of space for long walks.
  • They also feature stunning viewpoints with huge cliffs covered in lush jungle.
  • Nearby, there is a small mangrove forest, adding to the natural scenery of the area.
  • It’s a truly tranquil destination and a perfect spot to enjoy a lovely sunset.

Amenities

Laem Kho Kwang Beach and Hin Ngam Beach are quite far from the tourist activities, so you won’t find beach bars and restaurants here.

However, there are a few hotels in the area, providing accommodation for people wanting to stay in this peaceful setting.

2. Klong Dao Beach

Klong Dao Beach is the northernmost gem on the west side of Koh Lanta.

  • It’s a perfect spot for a serene beach experience, but very close to the busy Saladan Pier, making it easy to get to.
  • The beach spans three kilometers and has pristine white sands.
  • The sand is always clean and the trees provide plenty of shade.
  • The shore has a gentle slope, making it great for swimming.
  • The sunsets at Klong Dao are spectacular, as you can see limestone cliffs and islands in the distance.

Amenities

Unlike many other popular beaches, Klong Dao is very quiet. You won’t hear any noise from boats or jet skis.

3. Klong Khong Beach

Klong Khong Beach is a lively and well-developed spot on Koh Lanta.

  • The beach is long and wide, with lots of restaurants, bars, and shops near the shore.
  • It’s known for its bustling atmosphere and many amenities.
  • You can enjoy beachside massages, yoga sessions, and evening parties. There are even tattoo parlors available.

4. Kantiang Beach

Kantiang Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern Thailand.

  • It is surrounded by lush jungle and mountains, creating a secluded and scenic atmosphere and a picturesque spot.
  • Located further south on the island, it is a peaceful retreat away from the busier tourist spots.

  • This is one of the most deserted beaches on the island.
  • You can reach it via the Diamond Cliff Restaurant.
  • The beach is a mix of sandy and rocky landscape.
  • The crystal-clear water makes it perfect for swimming. You can even try snorkeling to see fish hiding between the rocks.

Last Beach, also known as Klong Chak Beach, is a favourite for its serene and secluded environment.

  • The laid-back atmosphere and minimal crowd make Last Beach a great destination to spend a peaceful day.

Amenities

It is home to a few bars, a restaurant, and bungalows; with affordable food and accommodation options.

7. Bamboo Beach – Had Mai Phai

Bamboo Beach sits at the southernmost tip of Koh Lanta, near the national park.

  • This scenic beach and long beach.
  • Location make the drive there quite long, but it’s worth the effort.

The beach is quiet and less crowded, you can find two beach bars here.

It’s a great spot to enjoy a meal in a truly tranquil setting.

Koh Lanta’s Wild East Coast

You won’t find many beaches on the east coast of Koh Lanta, but it doesn’t mean you should skip this part of the island.

Especially if you are visiting for the first time, you should venture to the east coast.

  • This side of the island is known for its wild, local character rather than a touristy vibe.
  • Because you won’t find many typical beaches here, it is the perfect place to escape the crowds.
  • The route is also perfect for a scenic road trip with several stops at restaurants offering either lovely viewpoints or seaside restaurants.
  • The landscape is dominated by mangrove forests, wild shores, and small beaches with dark sand or rocks.
  • Many areas are inhabited by local fishing communities, and you can visit the Urak Lawoi Cemetery, located in the forest near the shore.

On the east coast, you will also find Koh Lanta Old Town, with a fisherman’s pier and many interesting cultural sights, but unfortunately, no beach.
