I’ve brought the most useful booking platforms and travel tools together here, so you can find what you need without opening endless tabs.

Accommodation
Finding the right accommodation is more than just the price. Platforms may show different properties, rooms or rates, so it is worth comparing options once you find somewhere you like.
Booking.com
Booking.com is always my starting point for hotels, guesthouses, apartments and beach bungalows across Southeast Asia.
Without a doubt, the platform offers the widest choice, along with discounts for regular users and flexible cancellation, which is helpful if your itinerary may change.
Agoda
Agoda is worth checking particularly in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and India. I have used it to find properties that weren’t advertised anywhere else.
Hostelworld
Hostelworld specialises mainly in hostels and budget accommodation and is useful if you want a sociable stay, but private rooms are usually available too.
I’ve also managed to find some hidden gems there, such as local guesthouses, so I highly recommend not overlooking this platform!
Expedia
Expedia is an useful alternative, especially when a hotel is unavailable elsewhere or you want to organise accommodation, flights or car rental through one platform.
Flights
Flight prices and routes can vary between platforms. Start by finding suitable dates, compare the final fare in one or two places, and check the airline’s own website before booking.
Google Flights
Google Flights is a good starting point when planning a trip.
I use it to get an overview of the available connections between destinations, but I usually complete my booking on another platform.
Kiwi.com
Kiwi.com can combine separate flights from airlines that do not normally work together.
It is a great tool for revealing cheaper or more convenient routes.
Trip.com
Trip.com compares airlines and routes worldwide. It is worth checking for both long-haul and regional flights to Southeast Asia.
Skyscanner
Skyscanner compares airlines and booking websites. Its whole-month search is useful when your travel dates are flexible.
momondo
momondo compares airlines and travel agents, with a price calendar that highlights cheaper travel dates. It is worth checking when fares seem high.
Tours and Activities
Booking online makes it easier to compare itineraries, reviews and cancellation conditions. It is particularly useful for popular tours and shorter trips with limited time.
GetYourGuide
GetYourGuide offers guided tours, day trips, attraction tickets and outdoor activities across Southeast Asia.
It is a useful starting point when you want to compare established tours and read recent traveller reviews.
Viator
Viator offers day trips, private tours, small-group experiences and specialist activities from local operators.
Use it to find unique experiences and lesser known attractions.
Klook
Klook has a strong selection of tours, attraction tickets, water activities and transfers across Asia.
It is worth checking for activities in Thailand and Malaysia, especially when another platform has limited availability.
Before you book always check for additional fees like national parks entry tickets.
Transport
Travelling around Southeast Asia often involves ferries, buses and trains. For road trips and less-connected areas, renting a car can offer more freedom.
12Go
12Go lets you check times and book ferries, trains, buses, minivans and transfers.
I find it especially useful for planning island trips and working out how to get to the nearest pier.
Localrent
Localrent features cars from local rental companies, with deposit, payment and insurance conditions shown before booking.
DiscoverCars
DiscoverCars compares offers from local and international rental companies, including prices, supplier ratings and rental conditions.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance can help with unexpected medical and travel costs. It’s especially useful when your trip includes outdoor activities or scooter travel.
EKTA Travel Insurance
EKTA offers travel insurance for international trips, with medical and transportation cover and plans for different activity levels.
Policies can be arranged online and delivered by email, with worldwide options for multi-country journeys.
VisitorsCoverage
VisitorsCoverage is a comparison platform rather than a single insurer.
It lets you compare travel medical and trip insurance policies from multiple providers, including their limits, deductibles, benefits and prices.
eSIM Card
Flight prices and routes can vary between platforms. Start by finding suitable dates, compare the final fare in one or two places, and check the airline’s own website before booking.
Airalo eSIM Card
I use Airalo regularly and have used it on every continent I’ve travelled to.
It is easy to set up, and very convenient as I can buy a country-specific eSIM before arriving to a new country.
Even if I later buy a local physical SIM, I keep Airalo as a backup.
It means I can get online as soon as I arrive and manage everything in English instead of navigating a local provider’s website or app.
Before you buy remember to check that your phone is unlocked and supports eSIMs!
